The Ashcott Inn, Bridgwater

A group of us called in for a snack after watching the starling roost nearby. The staff were very welcoming, made excellent recommendations for the food, which was really tasty and good portions. We had more than snacks as it was all so tempting. As it was cold outside, they pulled tables together for us near the fire. The lounge bar is what it says too - a cosy room with comfy sofas. Very homely and a great evening. The beer was also good.

The White Hart Pub, Congresbury

As two families if eight who had been disappointed eating out elsewhere locally we were delighted by the service, ambiance send food at the White Hart.

The owner went out of his way to accommodate us , sorting out the children and the food when it arrived was classic pub food, wholesome and locally sourced - fabulous flavours and generous portions. The lamb shank was particularly great as was the cheeseboard .

Oriental Aroma at The Bath House Hotel, Chard

Since moving to the area a couple of years ago, we had been looking for a good quality restaurant, and a half decent takeaway.
This restaurant has to hit both with five stars, easily. The customer service simply surpasses anything and anywhere else I have eaten in the locality. The takeaway food, is as of a high a standard as you would expect in the restaurant. The menu isn't as vast as some you may have visited, and it may be a little more expensive than some others, but what is clear is that the owners and chefs concentrate on quality not quantity, and as for price, you get what you pay for. I don't begrudge a penny. Well and very highly recommended, I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

My husband and I have now enjoyed 3 meals in Flavours in the last 5 months. Each one has been excellent. The recent Spanish themed evening with Flamenco dancing and guitar was fabulous. Wellington is lucky to have such a good local restaurant.

The Olde Chapel, Porlock

After a walk at Tarr Steps we parked up in the long stay car park and wandered up the main street. The unusual premises drew us in for a late lunch. A very warm welcome from owner Ian, we chose the bay window seat and enjoyed a pot of tea while waiting for the lunch. 1960's music playing in the background while we watched the world go by on this sunny October day. Lunch was freshly fried, freshly made real chips, off the bone ham and free range eggs. This meal is my usual choice and third I have had in Somerset. This was by far the best I have had all year. A second pot of tea, a fresh tray of cupsand pot, was not charged for. I heartily recommend this venue; light meals, bright and clean venue, cheerful couple managing it.

Sunday Roast at it's best! Having sampled Sunday lunch at numerous local pubs and restaurants - the good, bad and indifferent, nothing has come close to the standard set at Goodfellows@ Haskins. The food, the staff, the ambiance were all top notch!

The Sanctuary Restaurant & Wine Bar, Taunton

Disgusting. To be fair the meal was ok. Massively overpriced for a huge hole in the floor. My biggest issue with the establishment is the manageress what a complete snob who attempted to belittle my family in front of everyone in her restaurant she is an idiot if she had an ounce of customer service in her body her restaurant would probably do reasOnably well. I worked in the restaurant trade for 5 years of my life and I have never seen a manager have a go at a member of staff on the restaurant floor before last night. I was disgusted with her attitude and she lacks a huge amount of professionalism. Let alone she attempts to make you feel tiny when you do have a problem. I will never eat here again and advise noone else to.

Once again, a fantastic meal at our favourite restaurant. John and Joyce always so friendly and welcoming and the food wonderful. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in ambience, good food and pleasant company. We can't wait to return, with yet more friends and family.

Your restaurant is lovely and I would recommend it to anyone but I would just like to say how appalled and disgusted I am by the behaviour of Nicholas, who seems to think it is acceptable to treat people like dirt. I suggest that he solves this immediately before he hurts anyone else. Thank you very much for a lovely meal

An absolutely fantastic traditional pub with log fire.
The nicest couple you could ever wish to meet runs the pub.
And now for the important part ---- the food. I've tried just about everything on the menu and I can assure you it is all absolutely gorgeous. Their steaks are to die for and all washed down with a lovely pint of Doombar.
I've told my family in Wales all about it and they intend on coming down just to try the steaks.
Thank you Bob and Row for your food and hospitality. see you soon.

The Olde Chapel, Porlock
Review by Keith Wright on 15 August 2011
Rating: 1Rating: 1Rating: 1Rating: 1Rating: 1

On the first day of our week's holiday in Porlock, this August, my wife, 10 year old son and I entered The Olde Chapel for lunch; although there were only a few (approx 30% of capacity) tables occupied, the man behind the bar (proprietor ?) was rude to us and exclaimed "no room at the moment mate". When I enquired as to how long it might take for a table to become available, the man sighed, shrugged his shoulders and laboured hard to manage to say the words "half an hour". Needless to say, we turned on our heels and never graced this awful establishment again during the rest of the week. This curiously British attitude whereby the cutomer is viewed as an inconvenience is symptomatic of the reason why my family and I will return to holidaying in Spain next year.
